Recommended Strategies

  • Say my name before you give me important instructions so that I pay attention and remember better.
  • Make the room less distracting, like choosing a seat for me or using simple displays, so that I can concentrate better.
  • Split information into small parts to help me remember it so that I don’t feel overwhelmed.
  • Use picture prompts or short notes to help me remember information so that I can stay on track.
  • Help me write or record notes for myself so that I can remember what to do.
  • Help me understand why remembering instructions is helpful so that I want to practise remembering.
  • Make important information easy for me to find so that I can get what I need when I need it.
  • Give me extra time to think about information so that I can understand it before I respond.
  • Connect new learning to things I already know so that I can see how they fit together.
